Wheel Alignment is critical for any MX5 or Roadster. It will determine how the car handles in particular situationsn with the input from the driver, steering, brakes and throttle.
It will also affect tyre wear. An incorrectly aligned car will wear tyre edges as a very rapid rate.
Getting your alignment right will not only help the way your car drives but how often your need to replace tyres.
The alignment bolts are offset nuts and bolts and look like this.
There are eight on cars made between 1989 and 2005, they are used to mount the lower wishbones to the car. The later MK2 Alignment Bolts have a slightly different design with a fine thread so they can be adjusted more precisely.
The location on the underside of the car tends to mean these bolts suffer from rust and tend to seize. If they do when the car is being adjusted, they snap. That means you won't be able to safely drive the car or finalise the alignment! Remember some alignment centres will charge you for time (upto £300 per hour) if you car is stuck on their ramp, whilst you find the replacement parts!
We can check your alignment bolts, make sure they are free and move properly before you visit an alignment centre. This will avoid those difficult situations and you'll know you car is ready when you take it in.
We won't make any adjustments to the car when we do this work, just free them off so they are ready to be adjusted. We can recommend a local four wheel alignment centre.
It usually takes about half and hour.
