Mazda haven't been to the New York show for many, many years. But they decided to go in 2016! And was it worth it!
They showed the MX-5 RF which is a beautiful looking cabrio / convertible..
Why have Mazda gone back to the CC style of car? Simple, the market demanded it. Mazda's two largest markets are the US and the UK, more than 80% of the MK3 were sold as Coupe / Convertibles, even though the soft-top was available. Remember almost of it's competitors are CCs too!
It's a little bit more like the Targa top cars of the 1980's - do you remember the 911 Targa?
But the MX-5 RF looks great. We can see Mazda dealers having an even easier time of selling cars now.
With the roof up, it looks like a proper Coupe. Come on Mazda, you built a proper Coupe when the Mk2 was available (Japanese Market Only). Maybe it's time to build another?
Thanks to Mazda for the picture.
