It's no surprise to many that BBR have already come out with upgrades for the MK4.
BBR's histrory with Mazda goes back to the 90s when they produced, for Mazda UK, the MK1 BBR Turbo. That car is now becoming quite rare. They also worked on the MK3 quite successfully.
They have come up with power (and torque) upgrades for both the 1.5 and 2.0.
The 1.5 gets becomes the "Super 160". That's not the name we gave, it's BBRs official name. The Super 160 pack raises the 1.5 to 156 bhp and increase of 21bhp. That sounds great for £495... However, there's a small catch - these upgrades invalidate the Mazda Warranty! BBR have tried be address this by offering their own engine and drive-train warranty.
The 2.0 get wto options, the "Super 175+" and the "Super 190".
Super 175+ gives you 175bhp but they dodn't say if torque is raised. This cost £495.00 but again, you'll loose your Mazda warranty.
Super 190 gives you 190bhp and 32Nm of torque. The exhaust is changed, ECU remapped and there's a cold air intake. (We've told you so many times how important cold air!!). Again you loose the Mazda warranty and the prise - £1995!
We're not sure how many owners will be happy to give up their Mazda warranty, there will be some but it will probably be a few years before we see lots of these about.
AND remember the Abarth version of the Fiat 124 Spyder is promised to have over 200bhp and it will come with a three year warranty!
Could be quite insteresting to see how BBR do with this.
It's offical, there's a MK4 Automatic in 2016! Well in the US at least..
Mazda in America have been showing the 2016 Automatic to journalists.
It seems to have been received well. It'll cost about £1000 more over the manual so it will be interesting whether it'll arrive here..
