Catalytic Converters or Cats are used to control vehicle emmisions.
It converts the "toxic" pollitants in exhaust gas to less toxic pollutents by catalysing a redox reaction.
The MOT rules here in the UK are quite complicated. A catalytic converter is required:
Eunos Roadster owners (imported cars) can remove the cat providing the vehicle was not first used on or after 1st August 1995. That is any Roadster first used BEFORE 1st August 1995.
MX5s first used BEFORE 1st August 1992 may also remove the cat. Any UK (or EU) registered car first used on or after 1st August 1992 MUST have a cat.
REMEMBER: You will need to advise your MOT tester about this before the test. In our experience, some Roadsters get tested incorrectly as MX5s. Make sure you have the correct details on your registration document.
There are a number of cat sizes fitted to MX5s and Roadsters. We will add more information to this page about sizes and what they look like soon.
